ABOUT THE PROJECT

About Open Laser Files

Open Laser Files is an independent English-language index for makers exploring a large community laser-cut archive.

Last reviewed: September 2, 2026

Why this site exists

Large “mega bundles” are difficult to search, often contain duplicate archives and rarely explain which file is worth testing. Open Laser Files organizes the collection by project type and publishes practical guidance about formats, kerf, material thickness, assembly, safety and licensing.

Who maintains the site

The site is independently maintained through the support address below. It is not the original creator, licensor or testing laboratory for every file in the external archive. No professional credential or machine certification is claimed. Editorial pages are written to document what was actually inventoried and to make uncertainty visible instead of turning folder labels into unsupported promises.

How the inventory was counted

The September 2, 2026 source snapshot contained 20,910 ZIP archive containers totaling about 104 GB across 16 top-level folders. Those figures were produced from the organized storage inventory. They describe archive containers and storage volume—not a verified count of unique designs, usable projects or license-cleared files.

Normalized titles revealed large groups of repeated archive names, and low-information filenames are also present. For that reason, Open Laser Files avoids claims such as “20,910 unique designs,” “all files include SVG and DXF,” or “every project is commercially licensed.”

What has and has not been reviewed

The public collection pages identify broad project themes and publish checks relevant to those themes. A sample of preview images is used to explain the categories. The entire archive has not been machine-tested, deduplicated file by file or cleared by a rights specialist. Formats vary by folder, and some archives may contain incomplete exports, protected brands or unclear source information.

Editorial method

  1. Use measured inventory data instead of seller-style headline counts.
  2. Separate an archive container from a unique design.
  3. Describe formats as possible contents, not guaranteed contents.
  4. Provide test-first steps for geometry, material and machine safety.
  5. Direct commercial-use questions to the exact file’s license and source.

Corrections and update policy

Pages are updated when a broken link, incorrect description, inventory change or supported rights report is confirmed. Corrections should identify the page, exact filename or folder path and the evidence for the requested change. Material can be removed from public guidance while a specific rights concern is reviewed.
